Stop Todd Smith

Texans are demanding integrity and security in our election process. After all, clean elections are the most basic way to empower Texans and promote responsible government.

Regardless of political party, a strong majority of Texans support legislation requiring that a photo ID be shown when voting. This simple protection is both constitutional and effective. But efforts to enact this reform were stymied in the most recent legislative session by one man: Republican lawmaker Todd Smith of Euless.

His power over the issue has been complete: Todd Smith is the chairman of the House Committee on Elections! So while the Republican-dominated Senate passed a Voter ID measure early in the Session, Todd Smith made sure it was delayed in the Texas House. (Read a timeline of the Voter ID effort in the last legislative session.)

Todd Smith aided a handful of "progressive" Democrats ensuring Voter ID died in the Texas House.

Remember: 70 percent of Texans support Voter ID laws! But not Todd Smith, apparently.

The Fort Worth Star Telegram recently reported Smith saying it was the Republican's fault voter ID failed. Smith said the problem is with conservatives. He said, "certain members in our party demanded we pass a version of the bill that simply did not have the votes."

And Todd Smith made sure of that. After all, 71 of his Republican colleagues in the Texas House signed a letter supporting commonsense Voter ID legislation. That's just four votes shy of passage! Sadly, Todd Smith refused to join his Republican colleagues. If he and the other four House Republicans would have signed on, Voter ID would have passed.

So, Todd Smith is out of touch with both Texans and his political party. It's time for him to be retired! Trial lawyer Smith is wrong on voter ID, taxes, mandates, small business... The list goes on.

Now here's the good news. Tod Smith is being challenged in the House District 92 Republican primary by a strong conservative who will fight for honest elections and integrity at the ballot box. You can make that happen!

Help pass Voter ID by supporting conservative Jeff Cason. Mr. Cason is committed to fighting for safe, secure and honest elections in the Lone Star State!
