What is a legacy?  Legacy has two meanings: it is the essence of what a person or organization is, and it is that intangible we are left with after the person or organization is gone. This is what we celebrate at Thanksgiving – the beautiful gifts others have shared with us. We are the beneficiaries of their legacy.

For those of us who have been a part of the Hill Family, whether as graduates or parents, we instinctively know what makes this school so special.  Like the spokes on a wheel, there are many factors that are at play including the dedicated faculty and the devoted Sisters. For decades, the partnership between the Sisters and lay faculty has ensured there is a strong sense of Catholic values and a stable environment where Hill students continue to achieve Summum Bonum, the highest good.

At Hill, the tradition of academic excellence and a commitment to our Catholic faith was established by the Sisters. These remarkable women have long served, not only as disciples of Christ but as our role models for living a life of generous service to others.

The legacy of the Daughters of Divine Charity is that of a loving, caring mother—sometimes tough in their love. The Sisters care for each other with love and understanding. Then that caring is manifested in the work they have done and continue to do.

How does the Hill Family share in the legacy of the Daughters of Divine Charity? 

Through their legacy as educators. When you volunteer or financially support Catholic Schools, particularly St. Joseph Hill Academy, you are sharing in their legacy.

Through their legacy of creating safe and nurturing places for young people. When caring for students and their families in need you live the legacy that is the Daughters of Divine Charity. 

Through their legacy of “making God’s love visible.” When serving those in need, our Hill Family embodies what the Sisters do and who they are.

This sharing goes beyond the specific ministries of our Sisters.  As Christ said, “When you do this to the least of my brothers, you do it to me.”  Make no mistake, when you care for a loved one, support a young student, or guide a young woman  to confident independence, you share in their legacy.

All of the Sisters give thanks for the legacy they have been given as Daughters of Divine Charity.  We give thanks for all the ways the Hill Family is invited to share in this legacy—as parents, alums, and friends.  When you sacrifice through a gift or you offer your prayers for the Sisters and their good works, you are sharing in the legacy that is the Daughters of Divine Charity. Together we can all live this legacy!

Your gift to the Annual Appeal helps support this important legacy. You will help:

·        Increase our ability to invite and welcome more students to share in this legacy.

·        Expand our capacity to offer financial assistance and academic scholarships to current and prospective students.

·        Supporting the ministry of St. Joseph Hill Academy supports the sisters presence on the campus through campus ministry, by opening the chapel to students and through the service and retreat programs.
