Clay Hunt - on a Team Rubicon mission in Haiti immediately following the disastrous Earthquake
Clay Hunt joined the United State Marine Corps and fought in Iraq and Afghanistan where he lost close comrades. Those experiences, and the rapidity with which they happened, changed him forever.
· February 18, 2007: Clay was monitoring a radio when he overheard the news that his bunkmate had been killed.
· March 11, 2007: Clay’s platoon was ambushed and pinned down by rocket propelled grenade rounds. During this attack, Clay lost another close friend.
· Three days later: A sniper spotted Clay and took out his left wrist. He was sent back to California where he suffered severe post-traumatic stress disorder.
On March 31, 2011, Clay took his own life.
Our Marines are trained to be warriors but what happens to them when they return home? Team Rubicon is building a program called Team Rubicon Transition:
Team Rubicon: Transition is a new program to get today’s veterans involved in domestic disaster relief projects. The program is part mission, part reconciliation and is dedicated to the memory of all the service men and women who labor to find solace after they finished serving their country. It was borne out of the memory of Clay Hunt, our good friend, who struggled to find his own reconciliation after returning home from war.
