Billerica faces many challenges in the near future, not least of which is constructing a new High School. I have supported this project for over two years, since the release of a school facilities study report, voting to approve funds for a feasibility study and voting to create a High School Building Committee, a committee that I have served on as Secretary since its inception.

During the past two years, I have remained steadfast that this project must garner widespread support within Billerica and should not include any aspect that would add unnecessary opposition.

I fully support a High School project that is Educationally Appropriate and Cost Effective, while minimizing any impact to Billerica residents.

I have been asked if I would “unconditionally” support any project and the answer to that question is very simple: A true leader never offers unconditional support. A true leader weighs all of the information available and makes the decision that is best for everyone. Offering “unconditional” support is merely pandering and I will never pander to the special interest in Billerica. I will fight for what is best for all of Billerica.

I respectfully ask that you vote for me, Steve Smilgis, to be YOUR selectman on April 11, 2015.
