Today’s vote, taken at a time when few parents, children or teachers could attend, was a giant step backwards and will allow for “more of the same” high stakes testing. The vote says to everyone that our School Board lacks the courage of their convictions. It says to our superintendent that it is OK to scare parents and teachers with unfounded rhetoric and that it is OK to be insubordinate to your bosses’ directions.

I will continue to take a stand against this ridiculous level of testing. I will continue to take a stand against Common Core. I need all of you that are concerned about your children’s future and the future of our great nation to stand with me now more than ever. Together we can make a difference, but we must push hard on this issue before it becomes too deeply entrenched to remove.

Continue to email, call and visit with all of the Board members so that they will know that we are not going to let this critical issue quietly slip away. Encourage friends and neighbors to get involved. Send petitions, write letters to the editor and fill up the School Board chambers for every meeting.

As many of you know, I am in a tight re-election fight against a well-funded opponent. My opponent did not support our decision to opt-out and has been very vocal in saying that our decision to do so was harmful. If, like me, you believe that the status quo of high stakes testing and Common Core is the real issue, then please help me win! This fight will end badly for our children if my opponent is elected. We must get our message out, which will take volunteer and monetary support.

Please spare $10, $20, $50 or $100 so that together we can spare our children four more years of Common Core and high stakes testing. It is important for us to have the resources to reach all Lee County voters.

Although we may have lost this battle, the war for our children’s future must continue! Failure is simply not an option.
