What could be more fun than running and rolling in the mud over 3.1 miles??  We certainly can't think of anything!  Add that this muddy splash supports the work of WEEMA International, and you've got the prefect combination for the most awesome, hilarious and meaningful event ever!

On Saturday morning, July 26th, our family (Liz, Scott, Biniam and Emma) will join the rest of Team-a WEEMA for the Dirty Dash in Amesbury, MA.

  WEEMA International’s accomplishments to date:

1.       Upgraded a failed water project built by another NGO 10 year ago

2.       Initiated and completed a gravity-fed water project serving 10,000 people

3.       Sponsorship of 5 young women from Tembaro to Hamlin College of Midwives (4 year program.) 

4.       120 women participating in self-help groups

5.       10 recipients of micro-grants for small businesses

6.       Delivery of requested, life-saving medicines and medical equipment to 4 health centers

7.       Delivery and installation of 10 “solar suitcases”, solar-powered lighting for management of night-time  maternity     care

8.       60 beekeepers trained in modern beekeeping techniques

 

  Active projects:

1.        Supplying medical equipment to the newly built hospital in Mudula

2.        Partnership with the Himalayan Cataract Project and the local health department to host a cataract surgery campaign to bring sight to hundreds of Ethiopians suffering from curable blindness

3.        Building the first public library in Mudula with internet access

4.        Expansion of solar-powered light project

5.        Construction of a second water project to serve 3,000 people
