Jessica Marie Hehn is a fun, loving, beautiful and intelligent woman. 31 years young, Jessica just celebrated her one year wedding anniversary with her loving husband, Joe. They have two little dogs, Belly and Hobo, and live in the Lake View neighborhood of Chicago. Jess and Joe live healthy, active lives and are the committed owners of a small, Chicago-based health and wellness company, CHEW Chicago, where they help individuals create healthier lifestyles through education, food, exercise and fun. Unfortunately, earlier this year Jessica was diagnosed with stage IV non small cell lung cancer, learning the hard truth that cancer does not discriminate. Because they are self employed, their temporary health insurance runs out mid May and will not be renewed due to Jessica's lung cancer.
Jessica and Joe sought treatment options in Chicago and Houston and after a lot of research Jessica is finally undergoing gene-targeted therapy through a clinical trial at University of Chicago. How Jessica was lead to this study is quite a story. Her oncologist at the Burzynski clinic suggested she reach out to a doctor at Harvard who was leading this study. After a few emails, slides were sent from Northwestern to Harvard for testing. They were testing to see if Jessica has a rare gene that less than 1% of the lung cancer population have. It would be two weeks before learning the news, so they accomplished a successful egg fertilization process in which they conceived and froze 6 embryos. The day Jessica had her egg retrieval procedure was they day they received the amazing news that Jessica did in fact carry the ROS1 gene and that she could go home after 5 very long weeks.
They really need your help and are humbly asking for it.
