1. Foreign Nationals
Foreign nationals may not make contributions in connection with any election—Federal, State or local (This is a federal law). This prohibition does not apply to foreign citizens who are lawfully admitted for permanent residence in the United States (those who have “green cards”).

2. Contributions in the Name of Another
Contributions made in the name of another are prohibited. For example, an individual who has already contributed up to the limit for a candidate’s election may not give money to another person to make a contribution to the same candidate.

3. Excessive Contributions
Finally, contributions that exceed the law’s limits are prohibited. A contributor and the recipient of an excess contribution may be assessed civil penalties in certain circumstances.

State law requires us to use our best efforts to report the name, mailing address, occupation and name of employer for each individual/organization.

The Tennessee Secretary of State's Citizen's Guide outlines the rules regulating campaign contributions. In brief, personal checks as well as checks from LLCs, Private Partnerships and Political Action Committee are accepted. However, checks from foreign nationals and corporate checks are not accepted. Contributions are not tax deductible for federal income tax purposes. Contribution limits are $1,500 per person or $3,000 per couple per election. That's $3,000 per person total for the primary and the general election, or $6,000 per couple. Click here for donation limits and rules on Political Action Committees. If you donate more than the $1500 maximum election donation as an individual, the first $1500 will be designated for the primary election and the remaining amount up to the legal limit will be designated for the general election. If you donate more than the $3000 maximum election donation as a couple, the first $3000 will be designated for the primary election and the remaining amount up to the legal limit will be designated for the general election.

No contributions in cash may exceed $50.

Incumbent state legislators are barred from accepting contributions from individuals from the first day of Session until June 1 in odd numbered years or until May 15th in even numbered years from individuals, and from PACs until Session ends. The next session of the General Assembly starts in mid-January, so make sure to get your contribution in before then. This donation page will be inactive during the legislative session.
