Cornerstone Schools of Washington, D.C. 2012 Golf Tournament

This year’s tournament will honor those who have served our urban community, and particularly those members of Congress who helped achieve a vital triumph for the District’s low-income families with the reauthorization of the D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program (OSP).  On the one-year anniversary of the passage of the Scholarships for Opportunity and Results Act, Cornerstone Schools would like to thank those leaders who have helped give so many underprivileged children the quality education they deserve.

Located in Anacostia, Cornerstone has witnessed first-hand the impact that the program’s reauthorization has had on our school and community.  Cornerstone currently enrolls 62 students who have qualified and succeeded in obtaining OSP scholarships.  Without this program, not only would Cornerstone’s funding gap for scholarships be a huge challenge, but these students would be forced to attend the failing D.C. public schools. 

Our school, founded by a group of Hill staffers and now in its thirteenth year of operation, is able to continue to provide an academically rigorous, Christ-centered education to 152 children from predominantly low-income families.  We are proud to have established a solid record of academic achievement—students who attend Cornerstone primary school for two years or more are five times as likely to score proficient in reading when compared to their local public school peers.
