On November 20, 1998, Conservation Officer James "Jim" Spignesi was shot and killed in the line of duty while responding to a call of illegal deer hunting after dark near Scotland, Connecticut. Officer Spignesi is the only Conservation Officer in Connecticut to be killed in the line of duty.
REMEMBER 648. In 1999, a Scholarship fund was established by a committee of Spignesi's friends, family and co-workers to provide scholarships to:
1) A University of Connecticut upperclassman who aspires to a career in wildlife
management or conservation law enforcement.
2) A graduating senior male lacrosse player from Conard High School which Officer
Spignesi attended.
3) A graduating senior from Parish Hill High School located in the town Officer
Spignesi lived in when he was killed.
"It is how he lived that made him a hero." The scholarship fund strives to reward men and women who have a passion for wildlife, while living their lives with integrity and humility. This is how Officer Spignesi lived his own life. Please donate to the James V. Spignesi Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund to help us raise money for a cause Jim dedicated his life to.
